Carbon removal
Our framework for selecting the most impactful projects
Grounded in Milkywire’s core principles of integrity, scientific rigor, and transparency, the framework combines non-negotiable selection criteria with three strategic purchase drivers to balance quality, impact, and buyer priorities. The criteria serve as an independent integrity and impact filter, while the dimensions shape the purchase strategy to align with your organization’s goals, risk appetite, and ambition.

Strategic purchase drivers
The purchasing strategy and portfolio design are guided by three strategic drivers that balance your goals, priorities, and risk appetite to help build the optimal carbon removal portfolio for your organization.
01 /
Market objective
Defines the role a purchase plays in advancing and scaling the carbon removal market, from catalytic early-stage support that drives innovation to expansionary purchases that enable broader adoption.

Buyer priorities
Captures how purchases align with an organization’s broader goals, including timing, pathways, diversification, and geography, to ensure carbon removal efforts support both climate targets and overall business strategy. Buyers often prioritize projects that deliver additional environmental and social value such as the restoration of ecosystems and biodiversity or the creation of local jobs and other community benefits.

CDR Methodology
A rigorous process from selection to delivery
Projects are selected through structured requests for proposals, followed by rigorous screening, evaluation, and due diligence. The process is grounded in scientific best practices and reviewed by an independent advisory group. Each project is evaluated against our core selection criteria and assessed according to defined strategic drivers. Finalists undergo in-depth risk assessments and are monitored throughout implementation to track delivery, manage risks, and capture learnings.
